Relationship with Modern Music

The five tones belong to a relative tonal system and do not directly correspond to fixed pitches in Western music, such as do、re、mi、so、la. In modern music, there is no strict classification based on these five tones.

However, music can still be functionally categorized based on melody, rhythm, and emotional characteristics, making it useful for emotional regulation and relaxation.

How Does Music Affect the Body?

A single musical note alone does not produce a therapeutic effect. What truly matters is the combination of notes into melody and rhythm.

Different types of music can influence emotions in different ways, for example:

  • Gentle and flowing melodies help promote relaxation and reduce stress
  • Upbeat rhythms can boost energy and improve mood

These effects work primarily by influencing emotional and nervous system responses, which in turn help regulate the body’s internal energy (Qi) and overall well-being.
